Professional firms who regularly deal with contracts, leases, or other legal documents typically need the services of a process server, one who is well versed in the state’s requirements for what constitutes properly serving an individual for the court’s purposes.
However, quite often in an individual’s life there are times when a process server may be needed to deliver divorce or small claims papers and eviction notices. They, too, would need the services of a professional process server to avoid any legal problems that could result in their case being thrown out of court.
In general, though, process servers find themselves working with a number of different professionals who will regularly need their services. These can include:
- Attorneys — Legal offices, by their very nature, use process servers practically on a daily basis to file court papers, find witnesses, serve subpoenas, and the like.
- Collection agencies — These firms use process servers to deliver orders of payment, collect debts, and identify targets.
- Doctors — Doctor’s practices use process servers to deliver test results, x-rays, and other medical files.
- Pharmacies — Along with doctors, pharmacies also use process servers to maintain the privacy of their patients’ prescriptions and other medical information.
- Accountants — Privacy also is a concern for accountants as well as investment advisors, banks, and other businesses that may need to transport confidential client financial information.
- Film studios — These companies are an example of others who need to document the delivery and receipt of important contract items. In this case, the process server may deliver film proofs or the contract itself.
- Engineers — Engineering companies use process servers to hand-deliver and ensure the safety of grant requests, proposals, or blueprints.
The reasons behind wanting the services of a professional process server can vary depending on the business type. Some use them to deliver to potentially hostile targets. Others need help in finding the target to begin with. Still others want the security that comes with having important and/or timely documents hand-delivered rather than putting them through the mail.
